Tampere Water is responsible for the supply, treatment and distribution of clean water; the construction and maintenance of networks; the conveyance of wastewater, rainwater and meltwater; the maintenance of the sewer system; and the treatment of wastewater. Its operations are regulated by permits, laws and statutory provisions.

More than 250,000 people live within Tampere Water’s operating area. Tampere Water serves as a municipal corporation, managed by a CEO. Its operations are managed and steered by a management group that consists of the heads of units in addition to the CEO. An organisation of 165 people is responsible for its operating activities.

Tampere Water’s costs are covered by collecting water and wastewater fees from users.

Its annual production of tap water is nearly 20 million cubic metres, of which 75 per cent is surface water and 25 per cent is groundwater. Tampere Water has four surface water treatment plants. In addition, it has five groundwater intake plants. It treats more than 30 million cubic metres of wastewater in four purification plants.

Environmental protection is an important part of its operations. Its environmental and quality management systems are certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards.
