The City of Tampere started to fulfil the objectives of the Guarantee, defined by the Finnish Government, by establishing a working group tasked with improving services directed at unemployed young people. However, the weak economic situation complicates this work. The unusually cold weather and sub-zero night time temperatures in March have led to delays with the removal process. At present, the process has been delayed by approximately two weeks. City centre thoroughfares will be the first stretches of road to undergo the process. This was due to Tampere’s commitment to promoting access to cycling and improving cycling infrastructure over the past two years. The award was presented to City representatives at the Suomi Pyöräilee (Finland Cycles) event in Helsinki on 8 March 2013. Air quality assessments carried out at the centres show that immediate remedial action is required at 13 sites across the city.
