Tampere was established on the 1st of October 1779 by Gustav III, the
King of Sweden. The city celebrates its anniversary each year by
organising various events. The first Tampere Day celebrations took place in 1955.
City offices mark the occasion by flying the Finnish flag on the 1st of October.
