Services for the disabled

The law pertaining to social welfare services for the disabled states the services and financial support measures that a municipal authority has to organize.

Tampere has a social welfare office for the disabled, in which social welfare workers make decisions in accordance with the law relating to social welfare services for the disabled.

Services that the municipal authority has specific obligation to organize are intended for the seriously disabled, who have a subjective right to them.
Services and support measures intended for all disabled persons are organized depending on the budget.

Services and financial support measures that the municipal authority has a specific obligation to organize are as following:

Appropriation-bound services and financial support measures:

A personal service plan may be prepared for a disabled person. It aims at clarifying the services and support measures needed by the person to remove impediments and obstacles caused by his/her disability.

Application

Services and support measures, in accordance with the law relating to social welfare services for the disabled, can be applied for in the Social Welfare Office for the Disabled throughout the year (permanent possibility of application).

An applicant’s income or property does not affect the granting of services. The basic principle behind granting services is based on an impediment caused by a handicap or long-term sickness.
