Enjoy Tampere’s beautiful lake and ridge scenery, the charming old redbrick industrial buildings by the Tammerkoski rapids and of course the various amusements and events. Here are some tips for you.
In Tampere it’s easy to walk almost everywhere, a few steps and there you are. Wonder aimlessly in the city centre by the rapids, or in the Pyynikki park, or why not take a guided walking tour arranged by the GoTampere tourist office? On leisurely walks of around 1,5 hours you can learn for instance about the cotton factory girls or the unique Pispala ridge.
To see Tampere from a whole new angle take a boat trip to Viikinsaari
island or rise on the lift to the Näsinneula observation tower in the
Särkänniemi Adventure park. Viikinsaari island with its nature trails,
swimming beaches and grills and Särkänniemi with its rides are excellent
places to spend a whole day, especially with children.
In the
summer Tampere is full of events, for example Pispala Schottische folk
dance and music festival and Sauna Open Air Metal Festival in June,
Tammerkosken sillalla popular music festival and Tammerfest city
festival in July, and Tampere Theatre Festival in August.
In
addition to the Museum Centre Vapriikki located in an old factory set in
the national landscape, Tampere Art Museum and Sara Hildén Art museum,
several other interesting museums welcome visitors, for example the
Lenin, media, and spy museums.
