Land use planning is precisely what the name implies. It involves reserving land for various purposes, such as traffic, housing and recreation.
Local master plans and detailed plans are drawn up to organise and control the use of areas within the city. Master plans determine the general guidelines for land use, whereas detailed plans define more fully the principles of land use and building.
