An Erik Enroth exhibition launches the Sara Hildén Foundation gala year

This year (2012) will mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Sara Hildén Art Foundation. In 1962, Sara Hildén donated the works of art that she owned to the foundation that was named after her. The core of the collection was composed of the early works (from the period 1945–1963) of the painter Erik Enroth (1917–1975). The gala year thus opens with an extensive retrospective exhibition of Erik Enroth's work, which will be on display from 11 February to 6 May 2012.

Electronic prescriptions to be used in Pirkanmaa as of April-May

The City of Tampere will begin using electronic prescriptions on 2 April, making it the first municipality in Pirkanmaa to take them into use. The other municipalities in Pirkanmaa will follow over the course of April and May. The Pirkanmaa Hospital District will switch to electronic prescriptions at the turn of the year.

The new school starts in phases by including first, third and fifth grade students in the new curriculum in the autumn of 2012. The directors of Tampere’s museums have announced their exhibitions for the year 2012. A magnificent year of exhibitions awaits the city. The year will begin with Vapriikki’s exhibition Lennossa (In Flight), which explores birds as the companions of Finns and other Finnic peoples and is scheduled to open on 24 February. This spring, Tampere Art Museum will display graphic art by Young Artist of the Year 2012 Ari Pelkonen.

Fees for social and health services to increase slightly in Tampere

Some of the client fees for the City of Tampere’s social and health services will increase by a few cents at the beginning of next year. For example, a visit to a health centre doctor by a person 18 years or older will now cost 10 cents more, totalling €13.80.

The main principle is that occupants of property are responsible for the winter maintenance of pavements next to their plots and the city is responsible for the driveways of streets as well as pedestrian and bicycle ways. The exhibition, titled according to a work by Antti Immonen, presents twelve young Finnish artists. These visual artists are all born in the 1970's and 1980's, and have taken part in several Finnish and international exhibitions. Some of the works are recent acquisitions of the Sara Hildén Foundation. The technique and realisation of the works at the exhibition vary, but figurativeness of different degrees is common to all of them. The human figure, interiors and landscapes are strongly present in the works.

The City Council and the Municipal Council are the highest decision-making authorities in Finnish cities and municipalities. The Tampere City Council consists of 67 members from different parties. The executive power belongs to the City Board. The City of Tampere has six committees that prepare issues within their own fields of expertise. A new Council is elected every four years. Residents can influence the city’s decision-making in many ways even in between elections.

The construction of the “small town” of Vuores in the southern part of Tampere has begun. The district already inhabits approximately 20 families, and many houses are under construction. Regular bus service is already in operation between the town centre and Vuores. The first block of flats will be completed in autumn 2011. The Finnish Housing Fair in 2012 will be held in Vuores.

Sara Hildén Art Museum: Summer Collection May 19 – August 28

The summer exhibit of the Sara Hildén Art Museum offers something old and something new but nothing borrowed – the entire exhibit is based on the collections of the Sara Hildén Foundation. We are showing the most famous works in the collections, classics of modern art. In addition to them, the public is presented with the most recent acquisitions of the foundation, from last year. Of the most important Finnish artists in the collections, the Turku based artist Kauko Lehtinen is presented to the public. In July, an adventure tour is arranged for the entire family in the Sculpture Park.
