PIKI libraries have a joint library system. Libraries are open for all and their collections,
services, and public premises can be used by anyone who will observe the library rules. The
customer is for his/her part responsible for the appropriate use of collections, equipments and
premises.
PROTECTION OF LIBRARY USER'S DATA
The library has the right to register the users´ personal identity code (Personal Data Act
523/1999, Section 13). The register of borrowers is only used for the control of borrowed
items. Personal or loan details will not be divulged to outsiders. The Personal Data Act
provides that people have the right to know what information has been stored on them in the
personal register. A specification of the borrower register is available in the library.
BORROWING AND RETURNS
Your first library card is free of charge and you can get if from any of the PIKI libraries.
To obtain a library card, you should present an identity card bearing your photograph and
personal identity code and give your address. A person under the age of 15 will need a
custodian's guarantee.
By getting the library card, you undertake to observe rules of the PIKI libraries. You can have
only one library card to use in all the PIKI libraries.
The card is for your personal use only. You will be responsible for the items borrowed on
your library card or on the card of a child guaranteed by you as a custodian. You should
inform the library on any changes in your name or address.
Please report immediately if you lose your library card. You will not be held responsible for
items borrowed on your card after the loss was reported.
The loan period varies from 1 to 28 days. You should return your loans no later than the
library's closing time on the due date. The library may restrict the number of items borrowed
or held on loan simultaneously.
You may renew a loan five times on a row if there are no reservations for it. The lending of
audiovisual programmes is subject to age limits imposed by the Finnish Board of Film
Classification.
The maximum number of materials to be held on loan simultaneously:
- CDs max 30 items
- CDROMs max 10 items
- DVDs max 10 items
- Videotapes max 10 items.
Some libraries have a drop box for returns. They can be used on the customer's own
responsibility.
LOSING ONE'S RIGHT TO BORROW
If a customer fails to return borrowed items or leaves the payments unpaid he/she will lose
his or her right to borrow from all PIKI libraries until the borrowed items have been returned
or compensated and all library charges have been paid.
FEES AND COMPENSATING THE MATERIAL
A fine will be charged for any items not returned by the due date. Also the fees caused by the
reminder notices and the cost of collection will be charged. The fine will be charged even if a
renewal has failed because of a fault of the net library or another technical fault.
A lost or damaged item must be replaced with an equivalent item or compensated by paying
a sum determined by the library. Because of the specific copyright fee system on video
recordings, videotapes and DVDs, these types of items cannot be replaced with an
equivalent recording.
Any payments already paid by the customer will not be returned.
The use of the materials in libraries as well as borrowing is free of charge. Fees are charged
for
- Requests for an item (reservations)
- Transportation between the libraries
- Interlibrary loan services
- Replacement of a lost or damaged library card.
OTHER
Disturbing behaviour in libraries may lead to the loss of the right to use the library.
The library is not liable for any damage caused to the customer's equipment by a recording
borrowed from the library.
Any civil action that may arise shall be settled by Tampere, Toijala or Ikaalinen District Court.
The staff will be glad to gain any feedback or suggestions.
VALIDITY
These rules have been approved either by the director of a PIKI library or by the municipal
board in charge of the library matters, depending on the municipal decision making system.
The effective date is 1 September 2007.
