Congress

FIDEM (founded in 1937) will arrange its next congress FIDEM XXXI at Tampere Hall, in Tampere, Finland on June 16th – 19th 2010. The organisers in charge of the congress are Tampere Art Museum and the Guild of Medallic Art in Finland. The congress programme consists of a large art medal exhibition, a wide selection of lectures, receptions, an excursion and a workshop for artists. The patron of FIDEM XXXI congress is Mrs Tarja Halonen, President of Finland.

About FIDEM

FIDEM (Fédération Internationale de la Médaille d’Art) is the international organisation of medallic art whose members come from 43 countries all over the world. FIDEM members are medal artists, collectors, art historians, in addition to which museums, art museums, art galleries, mints other private companies and national organisations of medallic art are well represented. FIDEM has promoted medallic art all over the world for over seventy years in many ways by organising congresses and exhibitions and art medal competitions and publishing Médailles magazine after each congress. FIDEM members also receive The Medal which comes out in co-operation with the magazine of the British Art Medal Society. The FIDEM archives and congress medals over the years are stored at the University of Lisbon, mainly for academic purposes.

Registration

All reservations (incl. social program, excursions and accommodation) should be made on the same registration form, also the items that are included in the registration fee. Tickets will be reserved only for those interested. Kindly make sure that you receive a registration reference number for your registration to your e-mail.

Workshop

The two-day workshop for artists will take place in the Monument Studio operated by Tampere Artists' Association. The address is Mältinranta Artcenter, Kuninkaankatu 2, 33210 Tampere. The theme of the workshop is Recycled materials in medallic art. Participants are kindly asked to bring their own materials.


Participant and student fee includes:

Admission to sessions, workshop, Galleria Saskia exhibition, the FIDEM medal exhibition, and Congress medal, Congress catalogue, tour of Tampere guided in English, Tampere city reception, afternoon excursion to Purnu, Viikinsaari island evening, tour of the museum centre and the Congress banquet at Vapriikki.

Post-Congress Tour fee includes:

Bus transportation from the pick-up places in Tampere to Turku – Fiskars – Helsinki/Vantaa Airport – Helsinki railway station – Tampere, central square (Keskustori), accommodation in a selected room type at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Turku 20 – 21 June, 4 guided museum tours and entry tickets in Turku, buffet lunch on a river boat in Turku, a guided tour of Fiskars Village and buffet lunch in Fiskars. The fee includes also the services of the tour leader during the whole tour. Registration and payment dead line 7 May, minimum 20 persons.

All payments (registration fee, hotel deposit and Post Congress Tour) should be made in advance in euros (EUR/€) in connection with the registration. When registering online, you will receive instant confirmation of successful registration to your email.

CONFIRMATION AND CANCELLATION


Confirmation of participation

TAVI Congress Bureau will confirm the participation by e-mail after receiving the registration and payments. No confirmation letters will be sent before all the payments (including the hotel deposit) have been received. In case an e-mail address cannot be used, the participation confirmation letter will be sent either by fax or by post according to the given contact information.


Cancellation and refund policy

Kindly note that all cancellations and/or changes to registration and accommodation must be made in writing to TAVI Congress Bureau by email: fidem2010.congress@tavicon.fi or by fax: +358 3 233 0444.


If cancellation for the participation and/or hotel reservation is received before 7 May 2010, the registration fee will be refunded with the exception of EUR 50 for handling fee and/or the deposit will be refunded except EUR 10 for handling fee. If cancellation is received after 7 May 2010 no refund will be made. There is no refund of registration or hotel deposit in the case of no-show. There is no extra fee if a participant’s cancelled registration is transferred to a colleague from the same organization.

20 - 21 June, Sunday and Monday a Post Congress Tour

DAY 1

The Post Congress Tour will take you to the old capital of Finland, Turku. During the day you will experience guided visits to four different museums: Turku Castle, Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum, Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova and Turku Art Museum. The buffet lunch will be served on an Aurajoki river boat, Restaurant boat Svarte Rudolf. The accommodation will be at the Holiday Inn Hotel in the city center. Evening free.

 

DAY 2

In the morning the bus will take you to Fiskars to experience the air of the old ironworks village. The village is a delightful old works community and cradle of Finnish industry founded more than 350 years ago. Today many craftsmen and artists have settled to live and work there (www.fiskarsvillage.fi/en/).

The guided tour will take one hour and afterwards you will have a buffet lunch served at restaurant Kuparipaja. After lunch there will be time for shopping and sightseeing on your own before the tour will continue to Helsinki, the present capital of Finland. Before arriving at Helsinki city centre there is a possibility to be dropped off at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport around 17.00 (5 pm). The bus will stop at the main railway station in the city centre for those who will stay in Helsinki.

 

In the evening the bus will return to Tampere around 20.30.

As the days are long, own snacks/refreshments are suggested. If the Post Congress Tour should be cancelled by the organizers, the paid fees will be refunded.
