The project between the city of Tampere and its Tanzanian partner city Mwanza is part of the North-South Local Government Co-operation Programme. The programme is coordinated by the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities and funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
The orientation of the cooperation is to support the Mwanza City Council in implementing the city strategy and in providing better services for its citizens. The cooperation project promotes sustainable development, participation of citizens, good governance, cultural exchange and development of professional skills of different employees by serving as a ground to exchange ideas and mutual learning. For Tampere the cooperation is a mean for the City of Tampere to implement the city strategy and Aalborg commitments.
