A total of around 1,690 first-grade pupils will start school in Tampere
this autumn. The school year will begin in Tampere’s comprehensive schools on
Monday 13 August 2012.
Schoolwork will begin in Tampere for around 14,900
comprehensive school pupils. This preliminary information applies to city-run
schools providing basic education. Around 70 pupils from a foreign-language
background will receive instruction preparing them for basic education this
autumn.
Starting in the autumn term, the Nekala school will
function as a part of the University of Tampere’s Normaalikoulu. The Normaalikoulu
begins its academic year according to its own schedule.
Pre-primary education will also begin as school
starts. Around 1,780 children born in 2006 will participate in pre-primary
education.
The situation for spots in morning and afternoon
activities for young schoolchildren is reasonably good. Nearly all applicants
have received a spot, even though some locations received a large number of
newcomers. Spots are currently being sought for the children who still have not
been placed. All in all around 2,400 first or second-grade children are
attending the morning and afternoon activity groups this year.
