When a person living in Tampere falls ill, he/she should call health care counselling at 03 10023. Health care counselling nurses provide treatment instructions, guide the patient to the correct health care facility, when necessary, and make doctor's appointments.
Often a phone call is enough and the patient does not need to seek help from elsewhere. Health care counselling is open daily 7 am - 10 pm.
Of Tampere's own health centres, Hatanpää, Tammelakeskus, Hervanta and Tesoma are open throughout this summer. Other health centres are closed from 24 June to 4 August.
During these six weeks, the doctors at the health centres that are open only treat patients in need of urgent care. Prescription renewals or medical certificates for driving licences, for instance, are not considered urgent so these should be taken care of before the summer holiday season.
At the health centres that are open, there are also nurses who receive patients without appointment during the summer months. Nurses assess the required treatment, if any, and attend to minor injuries and illnesses. They can also write certificates for short sick leaves and provide treatment instructions. Nurse services are free of charge.

Summer breaks of social and health services
The health care counselling assesses the required treatment, if any. In general, a patient should receive treatment within 24 hours of falling ill. Any delay in treatment may cause permanent damage to health or put the patient’s life in danger. Conditions requiring urgent care include earaches, backaches, respiratory infections and sprains, for instance.
In the daytime, patients in need of urgent care are referred to one of the City's own health centres.
If you fall ill on a weekday night and the illness does not require immediate care, wait until morning and then call health care counselling. A nurse will assess what type of additional medical examination or treatment is needed for your condition.
If you are absolutely sure that your condition cannot wait until morning, contact ER Acuta.
