Summer memo: opening hours of city services and tips about summer activities

15.06.2012 10:04

Lake Näsijärvi is shimmering, the parks are green and blooming and the city streets are brimming with happy vacationers. Summer has begun in the city. Tampere offers lots to see and experience in the summer for people of all ages.

The smallest ones in the family can enjoy the world’s first Angry Birds Land amusement park that is now a part of the Särkänniemi Adventure Park. The Sara Hildén Art Museum, located beside the adventure park, attracts art lovers with modernist classics, such as works by Picasso and Miró. The Museum Centre Vapriikki is currently showing William Lomax’s Tampere-themed photographs from the 1880s and onward as well as the humoristic and whimsical bird-themed In Flight exhibition.

The summer’s speediest sports camp, Stadium Sports Camp, will gather together 1,800 children and youth at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre in late July - early August. This is the first time the event is being organised in Finland.

You can also spend an unforgettable summer day at the Housing Fair in the Vuores area of Tampere from 13 July to 12 August 2012. The theme of the Housing Fair is the modern garden city, so the fair at Vuores will offer tips on energy-efficient construction and high-quality green building.

You can experience wonders free of charge on a guided nature tour of the Arboretum, for example. On the cultural trails, you can take time on your own to get to know Tampere from a completely new perspective. The verdant Viikinsaari island park is a splendid spot for a picnic.

Below you can find information about the summer opening hours of city services along with tips about summer events and other activities.

Have a happy summer!
