The
City of Tampere is preparing to establish a comprehensive school for grades 1
through 9 in Tesoma. At the same time, the possibilities for building
an indoor sports hall which would serve both the school and the residents of
Western Tampere are being negotiated. The
city will organise a public meeting to discuss the matter on Wednesday 7
September 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Tesoma comprehensive school.
Both Tesomajärvi comprehensive school (grades 1 through 6)
and Tesoma comprehensive school (grades 7 through 9) are in need of basic upgrades. At the same time it is possible to
establish a combined comprehensive school in connection with either of the
schools. The combined comprehensive
school would make it possible to better take into account the development of
the learning environment and the arrangement of support for pupils as outlined
in the new basic education act. The
school facilities would also provide pre-primary education.
Various solutions have been charted out, including a
clarification regarding traffic, in order to develop the schools in Tesoma. The comparison of alternatives does not
apply to the Ikuri and Lamminpää schools.
It is possible to perform the basic upgrade and expansion on
Tesoma comprehensive school in such a way that the school would be transformed
at the same time into a comprehensive school suitable for grades 1 through 9. In this case the indoor sports hall could
be built either in the immediate vicinity of the school, in which case it would
also serve the school, or farther away in connection with the ice and swimming
hall.
Another alternative is to carry out a basic upgrade of
Tesomajärvi comprehensive school and to expand it into a comprehensive school
for grades 1 through 9. In this
case the indoor sports hall would be built in connection with the ice and
swimming hall.
One alternative is to carry out basic upgrades on both
schools for their current use.
The goal of
basic education is to provide comprehensive basic education and learning path
for grades 1 through 9. The City of Tampere has founded several comprehensive
schools around Tampere in the past few years through various arrangements. At
the moment there are comprehensive schools in Linnainmaa, Amuri, Kaukajärvi, Takahuhti,
Lielahti, Hervanta and Kämmenniemi, as well as the Sampo comprehensive school,
for example.
The committee for children’s and youth services will decide
on the matter in October. If the decision is made to carry out the project in
the form of a comprehensive school, the new facilities will be in use by 2017,
according to the preliminary schedule.
The school services in the Tesoma area and the indoor sports
hall in Western Tampere as well as the alternatives for establishing them will
be discussed on Wednesday 7 September from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tesoma comprehensive
school assembly hall (Kohmankaari 11). The presentations will be held in
Finnish. Material regarding the matter will be available starting from 5:30 p.m.
Welcome!
