The city of Tampere will prepare a preliminary general plan for a modern
tramline from Hervanta to Lentävänniemi via the City Centre. The
different options for the tramline have been composed based on
preliminary route options for a more scrutinised comparison.
Cost
estimates of the tramline options will be prepared and they will be
compared to bus transportation during spring and summer.
At the Lentävänniemi end, the route will go along Enqvistinkatu - Lielahdenkatu - Pyhällönpolku and at the Hervanta end along Hallila - Insinöörinkatu.
In those sections that are significant to the public transport system as a whole there will be two alternative tramline routes. The alternative routes are in Pispala Paasikiventie - Hämeenpuisto and Pispala main road, in the eastern city centre Itsenäisyydenkatu and Hatanpää main road - Kalevantie and in Kaleva Sammonkatu - Rieväkatu and the route via the Tampere University Hospital along Teiskontie, Kissanmaankatu and Rievänkatu.
The tramline options have been assessed considering the following viewpoints: the viewpoint of the customers of public transport, the results from the option questionnaire, accessibility of areas and services, significant impacts and technical feasibility.
A map questionnaire regarding more specific routes will be conducted in spring
Public opinions regarding the preliminary options were gathered using an internet questionnaire during 20 January - 9 February 2011. There were a total of 2,590 responses. In addition, feedback has been acquired from several workshops and introduction events.
Later in spring more specific plans about the tramline options will be prepared regarding the location of stops, for example. After these have been prepared, the residents of Tampere will have the opportunity to give more specific feedback regarding these options and their impacts.
The feedback will be gathered via a map service that will be launched on the internet. A public event will be organised regarding the plans after the summer.
The preliminary general plan for the modern tramline, the comparison report regarding bus transportation and the cost estimate will be prepared in autumn after which further plans will be decided upon.
