A chance to visit the Family Centre Nopea without an appointment on Wednesdays

08.10.2010 13:00

In October, the Family Centre Nopea will start a new low-threshold service for young people between 12 and 17 years of age and their parents in Tampere. From October onwards, Nopea, located on Aleksis Kiven katu, is open on Wednesday afternoons for discussions without an appointment.

The aim of this open-doors afternoon is to offer support at an earlier stage for normal families in their everyday lives as they balance amid the challenges and growing pains caused by adolescence.
This far the procedure has been that parents should first contact the Family Centre Nopea by phone. The families have also been guided to Nopea by other participants in youth work (schools, for instance).

The Family Centre Nopea is aimed at young people between 12 and 17 years, living in Tampere, and their parents, and it provides early-stage help and support. The aim of Nopea is to help families in situations when problems are starting to appear but they still have not continued for a long time. At this stage, the issues causing friction in the family are often easiest to resolve as well.

Since the beginning of October, an employee of the Family Centre Nopea is available for meeting without an appointment each Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the work group premises (Aleksis Kiven katu 18).
That gives everyone a chance to visit the centre for a discussion.

Nopea can also be reached by phone at 040 800 4735. The best time to call is on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Family Centre Nopea provides help in the common difficulties faced by adolescents in the everyday life.
The parents can contact Family Centre Nopea in the following cases, for instance: there are problems at home related to curfews or excessive computer usage, the adolescent has lost the proper daily rhythm, there are difficulties at school, or the communication between the adolescent and the parents does not work.

General parenting issues can also be discussed with the Nopea employees. The adolescent can also contact Nopea him-/herself if co-operation with the parents is not functional.

Nopea starts working with the family on the basis of a common agreement. The process is initiated as quickly as possible and the family is met 1 – 6 times. One can also turn to the Family Centre Nopea for just one-off discussions of parental issues.
The Family Centre Nopea is a part of the welfare services provided by the City of Tampere, and its services are free of charge for the families.
