Spanish colours in the middle of October

06.10.2010 14:24

The City of Tampere Cultural Affairs organises a Spanish cultural event on 12. - 14.10.2010. The three-day event includes a seminar, various lectures on different aspects of the Spanish culture, a poetry evening and a concert. The event continues on 26.10. with the opening of a Spanish-themed exhibition at the Emil Gallery. The exhibition is open until 21.11.

The event is meant for all citizens of Tampere, and the purpose is to present Spanish culture in a versatile manner. Spain is a familiar country to many Finns through beach holidays, but its culture has many more sides to it than red wine and tapas.

On Tuesday 12.10. a seminar is organised at The Finnish Labour Museum Werstas with presentations on the Spanish woman, Spanish films and Latin American literature. On Wednesday it is time for Spanish poetry, as there is a presentation of Spanish poems, or rather their Finnish translations, at Runo café, Ojakatu 3 at 18-20.

On Thursday 14.10. there are two presentations at the Old Library House on the pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela. Professor Christian Krötzl’s lecture delves into the history of the pilgrimages, after which Eva Katajamäki shares her own pilgrimage experience. Thursday evening continues with a concert of Spanish music with Compañia de zarzuela and Joan Enric Lluna. The concert has a 5 € entrance fee, tickets can be purchased before the concert at the door.

Viggo Wallensköld and Helge Riskula present their work in a Spanish-themed exhibition at the Emil Gallery during 26.10 - 21.11. The exhibition is free and open to all.

Organisers: The City of Tampere Cultural and Youth Affairs, library and educational services, the Finnish Embassy of Spain, University of Tampere, Academic Bookstore and 3. sector parties.
