There are numerous athletics fields for training and exercise, as well as competitions. They are used mainly by sports clubs and associations. In the summer of 2006 in Kauppi Sports Park there will be four football grounds with natural grass and three with an artificial grass surface. In Kauppi Sports Park there are also two fields for Finnish baseball and a third field in the immediate vicinity of the park, the so-called Water Tower Field (Vesitornin kenttä).
The following athletics grounds are suited for outdoor training in athletics: Tampere Stadium, Hervanta Central Athletics ground and Pyynikki Athletics Field, whereas Vehmainen and Lielahti athletics grounds have coal crush and fine crushed rock surfaces.
The athletics grounds can be used freely if there are not any reservations for competitions or other events.
