The Educating Cities organisation brings Tampere and Barcelona closer together |

The name of Barcelona brings to mind turquoise sea, rich Mediterranean cuisine, the Spanish sun and Antoni Gaudi’s architecture. In addition to these riches, Barcelona is also known as an active Spanish city in developing education and as the chair of the International Association of Educating Cities. Lluis Vallvé and Mireia Navarro left the southern sun for a while to get acquainted with the Finnish educational system in November during the darkest winter months. |

Netmobile services extend to the sub-region |

Next autumn the services of the Internet bus Netti-Nysse run by the library department of the City of Tampere will be available to Tamperes neighbouring municipalities too. The bus is equipped with computers and computer teachers to provide Internet education for various kinds of groups. |

Tampere attracts new residents - Operating costs still on the rise |

The population growth is continuing in Tampere, and in 2004 the city headed the net migration statistics in Finland. The growth rate is reflected in an increase in operating costs and investments in the financial statement of the City of Tampere for 2004. Nevertheless, the bottom line shows a slight surplus. The financial year 2004 closed with a surplus of 4.9 million euros, whereas the previous years financial statement showed a loss of 0.5 million euros. |
