Home inspections
asunnontarkastus

The Environmental Protection Department carries out home inspections to detect health hazards caused by housing conditions. The inspections include mould and dampness measurements. The office does not, however, perform inspections in connection with moves or examine the condition of homes in any other respects.

If you suspect that there are health hazards in your home, you should always contact the house manager or the owner of the building first. If damage caused by dampness or mould can be perceived with the naked eye, there is no need for a building inspector to carry out measurements: these flaws should be repaired as soon as possible.

General advice on mould and dampness damage matters is available from the Frenckell Service Point. If necessary, the technical advisors will direct you to a professional.

Radon

Radon is an odourless, tasteless and colourless gas, which you can only detect in indoor air using purpose-built metering devices. Radon’s breakdown products increase the risk of lung cancer. Potential radon hazards can be eliminated at the building stage by ensuring the tightness of all surfaces, joints and junctures in contact with the ground as well as by sufficient ventilation. Radon must always be taken into account when building new homes in the city area.
