All building work is supervised in Finland, and everyone building their
own home is expected to conform to the building regulations. All
building work is supervised to ensure that the required health and
safety standards are achieved in practice. Tampere is one of the
fastest growing regions in Finland. At the end of July 2011, there were
around 213,000 residents in Tampere.
As the population grows, there is
an increasing need for new homes. Housing production and city planning
in Tampere offer versatile and affordable housing for people at various
stages of their lives. There are some 58,000 owner-occupied homes and
around 47,000 rented and right-of-occupancy dwellings. In Tampere there

Building Control Department is responsible for supervising building
work and preserving and enhancing the appearance of the built
environment. In addition, the Building Control Department is in charge
of handling building permits, carrying out inspections relating to
these permits and providing instructions to people building their own
homes.

The Housing Department will answer questions concerning housing finance and other housing services. From there you can also get a queue number needed when applying for a right-of-occupancy dwelling. Other tasks of the Housing Department include selection of residents to state-subsidised rented flats and rent supervision, as well as supervising the selection of residents to interest-subsidised rented flats.
The Housing Market Place provides information on the available types of housing and advice on how to look for accommodation. You can easily find out at the centre which agencies offer rented flats, for example.
The Frenckell Service Point also answers housing-related questions and offers guidance in such issues as mould and dampness damage.
