The health centre change

The primary health centre can be changed by submitting an application

At the beginning of May 2011, a law comed into force in Finland entitling inhabitants of a municipality to change their current primary health centre to another health centre in the same municipality.
This brings about changes in the current practice in Tampere. As a general rule, the inhabitants of Tampere have been provided with health care services at their district health centre.

If any inhabitant prefers to use another health centre over their current health centre, they can notify their current health centre of
this. The notification is given using a form that is available in health centres. The form is available only in Finnish. It should be signed and submitted to the current dedicated health centre.

In addition to personal information, the form filled in by the customer should contain the name of the current dedicated health centre as well as the name of the health centre that the customer wishes to use from now on. In addition, the reason for changing the health centre is also requested.

The City uses these responses as the basis for developing the operations of its health centres. According to the law, the municipality must fulfil the customer’s request for change within three weeks.

The health centre change is valid for one year at a time.

The City has 11 health centres. In addition, it also purchases services from two private health centres: the Pihlajalinna clinic in the
centre of Tampere and the Attendo health centre in Hervanta.
