Family groups are one form of family work. They assist families with children who need help in coping with everyday life and other issues. Families with children under 3, in respective family group districts, are taken into family groups.
A public health care nurse of the maternity and health care centre, a family work counsellor or a child welfare officer of a given district can direct the client to a family group.
The family group is a home-like environment allowing parents to learn skills for daily living on the one side and preventing their fatigue and loneliness on the other. The group also offers peer support to young families.
Family group activities are free of charge. The family commits itself to taking part in its activities for a period of one year at a time. Clients visit the family group twice a week.
