Taking a child into care and foster care means organizing the care and education of a child or adolescent taken into care or temporary placement outside his/her own home.
Clients are guided to the taken into care and foster services by a decision of social worker at the social welfare office.
The application for foster care made by a social worker is examined in the Luotsi team. It finds out together with the client and the social worker the services needed for a child and the child's family.
Children may be placed in foster care with
a foster
family or
the family support centres of Tampere or
a foster
home or a child protection institution.
Once the child is taken into care or placed in an
institution, handling of the child's affairs is transferred from both
the social welfare office and the Luotsi team to the social and welfare
office Satama. It is meant to ensure good conditions for the
upbringing and development of the child or adolescent while in temporary
placement.
