The main sources of air pollution in Tampere are traffic, energy production and industry. In addition to local emissions, air quality is also affected by impurities from elsewhere.
The City of Tampere monitors air quality in cooperation with energy production and industrial plants included in the joint monitoring agreement. The costs of monitoring are divided between the city and the plants on the basis of emission amounts. Monitoring is carried out by the Environmental Protection Department.
