Teaching pupils of immigrant origin

Oppilaita luokassa.

Pupils of immigrant origin have preparatory instruction when they start school. Its objective is to enable pupils to acquire a basic knowledge of the Finnish language, to teach them how to learn and to acquaint them with Finnish culture.

Preparatory instruction usually lasts one year, depending on the development of the pupil’s skills. After preparatory instruction, the pupils are given general instruction in a school near their home.
