Boat connection

An Island in the Sun!

Viikinsaari is a summer recreation island for the whole family only a 20-minute boat trip away from the city centre. You can go there for a picnic or experience one of the many events held there over the summer. The boats leave from the Laukontori harbour every hour during the summer months.

The island has beaches, playgrounds and gaming fields. There is also a public campfire site and a sauna that can be heated by arrangement. Viikinsaari has a small marina that can accommodate 12 boats at a time.

On the island, there is a restaurant that seats 280 people and a kiosk.

The western part of the island is a peaceful nature reserve and the activities and events take place on the eastern side.

For peace and tranquility you can visit the island’s ecumenical chapel, designed by artist Ilkka Väätti. The chapel is both a work of art and a place for meditation, and is often used for christenings and weddings.

Dancing, theatre, concerts, nature trails, the beach and leisure equipment. Hop on board at Laukontori Square and sail on the Pyhäjärvi Lake to the idyllic Viikinsaari Island. This traditional amenity area of Tampere, offers a variety of things to do and experience during the whole of summer.

The gaming fields, stage, sauna and chapel can be reserved through the Cultural Affairs’ Customer Service. On our website you can also see an up-to-date reservation schedule.

From the Info, you can borrow different types of equipment for outdoor games for free.
