The cultural production in Tampere is based on the hopes and wishes of its residents and on the cooperation between various cultural producers of the city. The City of Tampere Cultural Affairs organises a wide range of events in various parts of Tampere for various age groups and in various fields of culture.

Cultural Affairs actively promotes children’s culture and offers families with young children fun activities in the Children’s Cultural Centre Rulla. Cultural Affairs is the organiser of the Tampere Music Festival and in charge of the Cultural Centre of the Old Customs House, as well as of the Viikinsaari Island, Haihara Art Centre, and of the multicultural affairs and services for senior citizens. Cultural Affairs also organises and maintains cooperation with the city districts, arranges international activities and numerous events, especially during the summer.

Cultural Affairs has its own gallery called the Emil Gallery in the Old Library House. The Emil Gallery has two exhibition spaces, Gallery and Studio. The Gallery organises around 12–15 art exhibitions each year, and all the exhibitions are free of charge.

The City of Tampere has a residential studio for artists in the Palander building at the centre of Tampere. The studio functions on the basis of an artist exchange programme but it can also be hired for other artistic use. In addition, the City of Tampere hires a number of other venues for different events. You can also apply for grants or subsidies to help you in arranging a cultural event of your own.
