City council

The Council is led by a chairman and two deputy chairmen. Their term of office is two years. On the basis of proposals by the External Auditing Committee, the City Council elects auditors that review the municipal administration and finances. The City Council elects the City Board as well as the members and deputy members of committees and boards of directors. Their term of office is two years, beginning and ending at the turn of the Council members’ term.

The City Council receives the Annual Accounts and the Annual Review for review by the end of June. The rates of the local municipal tax and the estate tax have to be determined by the 16th of November, and December is the deadline for the adoption of the municipal budget and financial plan.

The City Council convenes once a month, on Mondays at 5:00 p.m. In July the City Council only convenes if necessary. Question times are arranged when necessary for processing queries concerning the municipal administration or finances, addressed by the City Council to the Chairman of the City Board, the Mayor or the Deputy Mayor of the relevant sector. The question times begin at 4:00 p.m., one hour before the Council meeting.

Council meetings are open to the public unless the Council decides otherwise.
