Objectives

The objectives for the work of the Children’s Ombudsman herself and the work of the cooperative network involved in issues dealing with the Children’s Ombudsman’s mandate are revised annually.

Objectives for the work of the Children’s Ombudsman

The work carried out by the Children’s Ombudsman has a well-established position in Tampere, as it is authorised by the different partners, who have committed themselves to working for the goals, working in cooperation.

The Children’s Ombudsman promotes cooperation between different authorities and organisations. The aim is to take the viewpoints of children and young people into consideration in decision-making and all operations of the city.

- the work supports the healthy growth and well-being of children and young people
- children and young people are active members of the municipality and have a say in the city where channels for participation have been created
- the work of the Children’s Ombudsman is carried out to make the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child known in the city

Objectives for the work of the Children’s Ombudsman

The Children’s Ombudsman is responsible for the overall coordination and practical work required by the job. Her work can be divided into three main areas:
1) Work among children and young people
2) Exerting influence
3) Promoting cooperation

Specified objectives are defined for each area of activity. The objectives must be achieved so that the evaluation of the successful work of the Children’s Ombudsman is made possible. The objectives are divided into long-term goals and goals specified for each operative year with specific measures designed for each goal.

1. Work among children and young people

Objectives:
- to advance the participation and exerting influence by children and young people in cooperation with them.
- to make the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the work of the Children’s Ombudsman known.

2. Exerting influence

Objectives:
- to express the viewpoints of children and young people. The aim is to strengthen their different viewpoints on different levels of the city sectors and among the persons elected to various boards, committees and the like.
- to report and give opinions on issues related to children and young people. Reports and opinions are given at all stages of decision-making: preparation, decision and measures, including plans adopted by the City Council.

3. Promoting cooperation

Objectives:
- promoting cooperation among different sectors in issues relating to children and young people
- developing the cooperation between the public, private and the third sector in issues concerning children and young people.
