General information about
the 2009 EYOF volunteer work
Shifts and tasks
-Volunteers’ tasks and shifts
will be planned in June. We will notify everyone on
the shifts as soon as we have determined them. If there are days when
you cannot work, please inform us as early as possible. In any case,
we try to be flexible with planning the shifts.
When we have determined your
work tasks, please be in touch directly with the person responsible
of your job if you have questions about the task, for example. In the
opening and closing ceremonies, we need the help of many volunteers,
as well, so you may have shifts on these days, even if you normally
work somewhere else.
Accreditation
-All volunteers will receive
an accreditation card, which is a pass card for the competition venues, catering, Olympic Village, etc. Everyone must have an accreditation card,
including the volunteers, staff, athletes, coaches, media representatives,
guests, etc. For the accreditation card, we will need a headshot of
you (read the ‘Current News’ on the volunteers’ page).
You will receive the accreditation card on 13 July at the volunteers’ training (read `News´ on the volunteers’ page).
Volunteers uniform
-The uniform is given to every volunteer who works at least seven days in the EYOF. (See more information about the uniform from Volunteers News.)
Meals and transport
-Volunteers will have their
meals at the South-Hervanta School (Etelä-Hervannan koulu), which is
located within a 10-minute walk from the Olympic Village. Volunteers
receive one warm meal for free during a work day. If you need a special diet, please fill the special diet e-form (see Volunteers News).
During the EYOF week, travel
by Tampere buses is free for volunteers with the accreditation card.
Shuttle buses take you directly to the competition venues and the Olympic
Village.
The Olympic Village and the
ceremonies
-During the EYOF week, there
is a lot of programme in the Olympic Village.
You will have a free pass to
the competitions, as well as to the closing ceremony. Tickets to the
closing ceremony are available during the EYOF week in the Musta Pörssi
stores in Turtola and Koskikeskus, as well as in the EYOF info centres
located in Kuninkaankatu Street and Olympic Village. Unfortunately, we don’t have extra tickets to the opening
ceremony.
What kind of
accommodation is available for the volunteers?
There is a separate forum concerning
accommodation on the message board. You can offer or look for accommodation
there.
There are a few rooms reserved
for volunteers in the Olympic Village. More than one volunteer worker
will be staying in one room, and the price is 5 euros per night. Inquiries
about the rooms can be sent to the following address: eliisa.kuusela@tampere2009.fi.
What is an accreditation
card?
An accreditation card is a
card hanging around your neck, and it will permit you the access to
the competition venues, catering, and other EYOF places. Everyone who
is taking part in the games must have an accreditation card, including
the attachés, staff, athletes, coaches, media representatives, guests,
and so on.
We try to prepare the accreditation
cards before the team arrival. The card has the photo and personal information
of the person, as well as a chip, which gives you the access to the
different competition venues. We have asked for the team to send their
photos in advance. In the accreditation centre of the Olympic Village,
it is possible to take the photos for the card, or take care of other
business concerning the accreditation. Volunteers will be photographed in June.
There are also so called temporary
accreditation cards, which are available in exchange for collateral.
A day pass gives the person the access to the competition venue for
one day.
What is an attaché?
An attaché is an assistant of a team (of Team France, for example), and he or she represents the EYOF competition organisation. The role of the attaché is essential in the success of the competition, because the person works as a link between the organisation and the team, and assists the team in practical matters. Every country has 1-2 attachés.
Who is a Chef de Mission? What is a Chef de Mission Manual?
Chef de Mission is the NOC team leader. Chef de Mission Manual is a general
guide for the team leaders, and it contains all basic information concerning
the games. The same information is also available in the intranet.
What is NOC?
NOC is the National Olympic Committee.
What is TD?
TD means Technical Delegate, the person in charge of the sport in competition
venues, who takes care of the technical matters.
What is Buddy Up?
