85. SARA AND THE BOYS,
29 June - 4 October 1998
The exhibition Sara and the Boys presented works by some
of the most important Finnish artists of the 1960 s. It also revealed
the importance of Sara Hildén as a friend and supporter of young
Finnish artists at that time.
Sara Hildén started collecting modern international
art in 1961. Very soon she also began to acquire works by young Finnish
artists. Sara Hildén had a deeply personal relationship to the
visual arts: she used to call the works in the collection "her children".
The young artists of these works also experienced Sara Hildén's
motherly care. "Sara and the Boys" became a concept.
An art collection is always the result of a choice. The
exhibition Sara and the Boys aimed at shedding light on the origin of
the collection and on how the collection reflects the personality of its
collector.
The exhibition displayed the works of 16 artists: Göran Augustson, Juhana Blomstedt, Juhani Harri, Mauno
Hartman, Reino Hietanen,
Kimmo Kaivanto, Harry Kivijärvi, Ahti Lavonen, Kauko Lehtinen, Juhani
Linnovaara, Ernst Mether-Borgström, Gunnar Pohjola, Kimmo Pyykkö,
Jaakko Sievänen, Arvo Siikamäki and Kain Tapper.
The exhibition was accompanied by a multimedia programme
which presented Sara Hildén, as well as the art and artists of
the 1960's.
8,630 visitors attended the exhibition
