59. ERIK ENROTH,
23 November 1991 - 17 January 1992

Erik Enroth's (b. 1917 Helsinki, d. 1975 Helsinki) early works from 1945-47 were displayed in Gallery A of the Sara Hildén Art Museum.

The collection of the Sara Hildén Foundation was created and extended around Erik Enroth's works. Therefore it is only natural that his art has been the centerpiece of the museum's exhibitions and art historical research since the foundation of the museum.

The collection of the Sara Hildén Foundation has 519 of Erik Enroth's paintings, drawings and graphic works from 1945-62.

Previous exhibitions of Erik Enroth's works in the Sara Hildén Museum have been extensive cross-sections of the artist's whole production. This exhibition was a close-up of Enroth's earliest works and included 21 paintings from 1945-47. The majority of the works were displayed for the first time in the museum and many were restored and framed especially for this exhibition.

The paintings gave the art public the opportunity to see Enroth just as he was in the summer of 1945 when he arrived in Tampere for the first time after just graduating from the Ateneum. The exhibition also included works from 1945, when Enroth studied in the Royal Art Academy of Stockholm. The third group of paintings was from 1947, when Enroth very quickly found his unique personal style during the summer and autumn of that year.

The exhibition catalogue was the first volume of a major research and publication project which used original sources to examine Erik Enroth's art and working methods.

Professor Sara Hildén was an active participant in this research and was able to give the project her invaluable help.

Other galleries of the museum presented some of the main of works from the collection of the Sara Hildén Foundation.
