57. KAIN TAPPER,
12 August - 4 October 1991
The collection of the Sara Hildén Foundation includes
numerous works by Kain Tapper (b. 1930 Saarijärvi). The works are
highly esteemed, first-rate examples of a certain stylistic phase in Finnish
sculpture. They also give an overview of Kain Tapper's oeuvre, represented
by that style.
All the works by Kain Tapper in the collection of the
Sara Hildén Foundation were displayed as a separate exhibition
in Gallery A on the upper floor. This special section of the exhibition
in the museum gave a cross-section of Kain Tapper's production.
Kain Tapper was interviewed about the conditions under
which he had created the displayed works. The exhibition included
photographs,
which showed his studio as a working environment. The exhibition included
a video presentation of the artist's studio in which the physical activity
and sounds of Tapper's work were clearly seen.
The purpose of the authentic picture material was to give
the visitor an illusion of the presence of the artist, who "chips
wood all day long and picks splinters from his palms in the evening".
All the other galleries of the museum presented Finnish
and international art from the collection of the Sara Hildén
Foundation.
